How to Make a Shag Rag Rug from Old Shirts Easily

A shag rag rug is the perfect way to use up old shirts or other rag material you might have laying around the house.

Shag Rag Rug

My uncle had a bunch of old work shirts he was getting rid of, so I decided to put them to good use as this red shag rug.

The material I’m using is corduroy, but you can use pretty much any thick material. The most common method is to use old t-shirts, but you can also use the same technique to make a nice denim rug out of old jeans.

Once you’ve got all your strips of material cut, these actually go together pretty fast. The one I made was 25β€³ by 25β€³ and I had it finished in under two hours. If you want a larger rug, make several smaller rugs first, as they won’t be so cumbersome on the sewing machine. Then just sew the ends together to form one big shag rug. Groovy!
