One of the easiest macrame knots is the net, or fishnet knot. Here I use it to make a hanging of glass buoys, but you can also use it to make planter holders.

MATERIALS USED:
Yarn
Containers or glass balls
Scissors
Cork circles or large beads (optional)
A pine board
Wood gouges
Metallic Garnet Red paint
Gold Metallic paint
Duraclear Gloss Varnish
Paintbrush
Drill

Always use an even number of strings for the net knots for a macrame container. A good guide is one string for every inch in circumference of your container.

I call my woods Zenwood, so I attached a little painted board to the bottom of my macrame net hanging, but it’s completely optional. If you’re making a net for a hanging planter, you may not want a sign at the bottom. In that case, just leave the fringe hanging below the lowest knot.

Also I had some cork circles lying around, so I used them to separate the levels of the net for each glass buoy. However you can also just tie a knot around each section, or slip on a large bead to separate any sections you might want to make.

A final tip, the wider your container is, the further you’ll have to space your knots down the string. If your containers circumference is small, around an inch apart will allow for plenty of stretch. But the wider the container gets, the more space you’ll want to add between knots so the net expands accordingly.
