Alternative Housing

Before you begin homesteading, you of course, need a home. But as the price of houses rises in place, many homesteaders don’t want the burden of trying to live under a 30-year mortgage. Modern homesteading is beginning to look a little different as people turn to alternative housing options in effort to start a life without amassing a mountain of debt.

Instead of the traditional farmhouse porch, many homesteaders these days are building homes with straw, erecting yurts, or converting old school buses into cheerfully innovative dwellings for their homesteads. As an added benefit, some of these alternative housing options are more eco-friendly than their traditional counterparts; helping to keep our world a beautiful place. Smaller footprint, more affordable. Win-win.
