In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make cafe curtains, a very basic type of rod curtain.

MATERIALS USED:
A piece of fabric 6 inches longer than you want your curtains to be (you also want the fabric 2 inches wider than your desired curtain width)
Scissors
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Curtain rod (I used a mini tension rod)

Learning how to make cafe curtains is a great place to start if you’re new to curtain making. Cafe curtains are very simple curtains that don’t require any fancy add-on sewing. They’re easy enough that you can make an entire curtain out of one piece of material with no addition cutting or adding-on.

In this tutorial I made a single curtain to cover my refrigerator cupboard where I keep my little solar powered mini-fridge. But you can use the same technique for window curtains as well. Simply make two to fit on the same rod like traditional cafe curtains.

I suggest starting with a piece of material six inches longer than your desired curtain length. You may not need the entire six inches, but I’ve found it’s always better to have too much than too little. That way you’ll able to compensate for different curtain rod widths. You can also adjust the upper ruffle height to your desire.
