MATERIALS USED:
A big gourd
Dremel
Glossy black paint
Red and yellow puffy paint
Sandpaper

Gourds can be used for a multitude of crafts due to their versatility, including turning them into bowls. The trick to making a gourd bowl to use a dried gourd. If you use a fresh one, the shape will change as the gourd dries.

You can dry a gourd by scrubbing off the skin and leaving it in a cool, dry place for several months. (Also I’ve sometimes found that letting them get hit by a frost will harden them, as long as it’s not too hard of a frost).

I chose to put a simple south-west looking lizard on my bowl, but you can use any design you’d like. You can even carve your design into the bowl instead of puffy painting it. It is, however, more time consuming. So keep that in mind when you decide which method to use on your DIY gourd bowl.
