In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make a simple, non-electric sink. This is a great sink for if you’re living off the grid, living in a van, camping, working in your shop, or are just generally somewhere without electric, but still need a good sink.

MATERIALS USED:
Primo battery powered head
5 or 3 gallon water jugs
Sink tubing
Scissors
Drill to drill hole in top
5 gallon pail
Sink basin and plumbing pipes
2×4’s, hammer, plywood, and nails to build sink stand.

This sink uses no electric, just a small battery powered sink head that can recharge off any 12v battery. (So it’s perfect for people using solar too!) It’s the upgrade for the shop sink I made last year. Whereas the old one relied on gravity, this one has the actual battery powered pump, and thus its stream is much more like that of a traditional sink. You can very easily do dishes and other such tasks in this sink if you need to. Or in my case, quickly wash paint brushes.

This is best used as a more “permanent” non-electric sink such as one you’d put in a van, a camper, or a workshop. It’s a bigger than my previous one, so it’s not quite as portable. So if you’re just looking for something to throw in the back of the car for a weekend camping trip, my previous sink build above is probably the better option for that. Or else you could use this battery powered design with a smaller sink setup to make it more portable.

I didn’t show how to build the actual 2×4 sink base, because I already had this sink built. And then someone was asking about my sink head, so I made a video for it. The base is very easy to build however, just some 2×4’s for legs and a 2×4 square covered in plywood with a hole cut big enough for your sink to sink in.
