Here is part 2 of the DIY Jedi costume tutorial; the brown outer robe.

I used a brown wool material for this, which looked pretty similar to what they had in the movies. I was doing the Sir Alec Guinness version of the Obi-wan Kenobi robe from the first movie in this tutorial, so I left the edges raw and frayed to make it look aged, but if you’re doing young Obi-wan (or one of the other Jedi), you can hem the sleeves under a bit if you want.

Get basic robe cutting template here. It’s just a template, so you’ll have to enlarge it with graph paper, but it does help give a reference for the cutting and shape of the pieces.

Like the tunic part of the DIY Jedi costume, Obi-wan’s Jedi robe in the Phantom Menace is just like everyone else’s. In Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, his Jedi robe gets little tucks in the shoulders.

So if you want the Obi-wan tucks from the latter two prequels, just fold the shoulder under itself about an inch, then pin or hot glue it in place to get the tucks. And if you’re doing the tucks, be sure to add an extra inch to the sleeve length when you’re cutting it out, so you have some folding room.
