Had a request for the inverness cape coat that Jonathan Frid wore as Barnabas Collins in the Dark Shadows TV series.

Johhny Depp wore a very similar coat in the Dark Shadows movie when he played Barnabas Collins, though the collar was a bit different from Frid’s. These coats were very popular during the Victorian times.

When you cut the cape part of the Barnabas Collins coat, you want to make sure the material is half again as much more than you need; more than enough to go all the way around the coat. My piece wasn’t quite long enough, and it shows on the coat; the cape doesn’t quite touch the center point.

I cut my piece out of another second hand coat, which gave me not only the cape material, but a lining for it as well. It also kept it inexpensive. I was able to make the entire Barnabas Collins coat out of two old coats from the Salvation Army for under $10.
