Acupuncture is Good for Your Pets Too
Acupuncture and holistic medicine aren’t just for people, they’re good for your pets too.
My family is pretty much holistic everything, so it’s only natural that we would take our pets to holistic vets as well. We started taking our pets to a holistic vet after they got older and developed chronic conditions that conventional veterinary medicine couldn’t treat. We had such wonderful results we now take the young ones to our holistic vet for preventive medicine as well.
Our holistic vet is in Buffalo and she no longer comes out this way on house calls, so twice a year we load up the critters and take them to get “needled up.” Our holistic vet treats our animals with a combination of herbs and acupuncture, as well massage when necessary. Our vet came from a conventional veterinary medical background, but converted to holistic medicine after seeing an “uneducated” shaman fix an animal that she and her modern medicine couldn’t.
The animals thoroughly enjoy the acupuncture and they’re always very calm after receiving a treatment. After our vet checks the animals over, she prescribes herbs based on what she finds, which help cure ails they’re suffering from, or are used as preventive medicine. The acupuncture is done on site, so the animals only receive two treatments a year, but the herbs we are able to continue during the in between times.
Holistic medicine is especially helpful for animals with chronic ailments such as arthritis or cancer. We actually had one dog who was diagnosed with cancer by a conventional vet and told he wouldn’t live long. We had the dog treated by our holistic vet and he ended up living for 7 years without even knowing he had cancer until the last couple weeks of his life.
