DIY Fairy Dust Bottle with Biodegradable Fairy Dust – Transforming Old Jars

DIY Fairy Dust Bottle with EDIBLE Fairy Dust - Homemade Glitter - Edible Biodegradable Glitter - Transforming Old Jars

Get out the cookie sugars, because this week you’ll be using them to fill a DIY fairy dust bottle. The best part is, this fairy dust is biodegradable; it’s a great alternative to traditional plastic glitter.

MATERIALS USED:
Clear glass bottle with cork
Colored and silver baking sugars
Funnel (or baking paper to make a funnel)
Scrap of ribbon
Plastic heart gem
Scissors
Cream cardstock
Metallic gold paint
Sponge
Silver marker
Puffy Paint
Multi-surface glue

I like using bottles with unusual shapes to transform into DIY fairy dust bottles. In this case, I think it was a mini Patron bottle. While I’ve never been a drinker myself (sorry, you’ll never convince me that fermented taste is good…), I do have friends and family that save whimsical shaped bottles for me. When I saw this one, I knew it’d make a perfect potion bottle.

I used cookie sugar instead of glitter for this bottle. It has all of the shine, with none of the pain. While glitter is generally a few minutes of fun, and a lifetime of cleanup. Baking sugar is the opposite. It’s quick and easy to cleanup and it’s biodegradable, so the fun gets to be enjoyed a lot longer.

While I chose to just use purple as the color of my fairy dust, you can also mix multiple colors if you desire to achieve your perfect shade of fairy dust.

I used a plastic heart shaped gem, as it seemed somewhat “fairy-ish” for the bottle. But a fun spin would be to use the heart gem and fill the bottle with pink sugar. Then it could double as a love potion decoration for Valentine’s Day.
