Black Widow Costume Part 1: How to Make a Black Widow Costume Bodysuit
Had a request for a how to make a Black Widow costume tutorial, so now I have officially done a tutorial for at least a piece of all the Avengers from the first movie.
This tutorial shows how to make a Black Widow costume, the bodysuit part. Black Widow is one of the few female superheros with a somewhat practical costume design (well, at least, the later comic versions…) in that it might actually lend a little protection during a battle. In this tutorial, I based my costume on the version that Scarlett Johansson wore in the first Avengers movie.
If you want to go more classic, just change the belt and braclets color to gold instead of black. Also you can get closer to the Age of Ultron look by using neon blue bias tape with the black bias tape for the lines down the Black Widow costume bodysuit. I used a fabric marker to color over the non-black parts of my bodysuit because it was what I had, but you can also use black fabric paint instead.
The base pieces I used for the bodysuit were just performance fabrics clothes I picked up for $8 total at the 2nd hand shop. If you can’t find good performance material pieces in the women’s section, check over in the men’s section. They usually have a larger selection of black performance clothes (that was where I found mine). My video camera tends to have a bit of trouble filming black fabric, so it’s hard to see the different shades/textures at some points in the vid.
