How to Make an Evergreen Garland – DIY Christmas Garland Pine, Fir, Holly

How to Make an Evergreen Garland - DIY Christmas Garland

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make an evergreen garland for an extra dash of holiday cheer in your doorway.

MATERIALS USED:
Rope
Hand pruners
22 gauge wreath wire
Evergreens (holly, fir, pine)
Pine cones
Wiltstop

Last year I got hired to decorate The Dalai Java (the local coffee shop with the world’s great hot chocolate!), which was super fun. One of the things I did was to make a big, bushy garland to go around the door. I documented the process, as I’ve had several people ask me how to make an evergreen garland.

If you have a lot of evergreens, put them to use as a beautiful evergreen Christmas garland. While it is very time consuming, the end effect is well worth the effort.

It doesn’t take many materials, just a rope for a base, and some greens to cover it. The trick to making it look great is to use multiple types of greens. I mixed holly, fir, and white pine boughs on my garland to give it lots of texture.

Finish by adding a few pine cones at equal intervals and you’ll have a beautiful garland. If you want it to last longer, hang it outside, and spray it with Wiltstop (or something similar). And you can also spritz it with a little water every couple of days to keep it moist.
