Lt. Uhura – DIY Mirror Universe Lt. Uhura Costume

A few red shirts (gasp! red shirts!) is all the fabric is takes to make a cheap and easy DIY mirror universe Lt. Uhura costume.

DIY Mirror Universe Lt. Uhura Costume

MATERIALS USED:
2 red shirts (picked up for a few bucks at the local 2nd hand ship)
Scissors
Black fabric, 3 inches wide, and long enough to go around the collar
Sewing pins
Gold fabric for sash
Gold fringe (I didn’t use this because I couldn’t find a fringe I liked)
Needle and thread or sewing machine
Gold foil fabric (found in JoAnn fabrics)
Wreath wire
Fabric glue
Hot glue
Clip on or hook earring findings
Second hand pair of boots

The Mirror Mirror episode was one of my favorites from the original series, so even though this is a little more skin than I generally show this time of year, the mirror universe Lt. Uhura costume was still a fun one to get into. (Now if I only had Nichelle Nichols’ fabulous abs… πŸ˜‰ ).

It’s pretty simple to make, two shirts was more than enough to complete it. And it only requires basic sewing. The boots I used were a little short. I had intended to make them longer by attaching a little fake leather to the tops like I did with the boots on my Isabela costume. But I ran out of time, so I just ended up using the boots as is here.

For the earring in my mirror universe Lt. Uhura costume, I made mine as swirls, because it was easier to just cut a single shape. But in the actual episode, Uhura’s earrings were a series of circles connected together. Also I didn’t make the knife sheath, but it could be very easily done by just gluing a little “pocket” of fake leather on the outside of one of the boots.
