Bat Man Suit (not Batman) – No Sew
Last Halloween a friend of my sister’s had me make him a Bat Man suit, (not to be confused with a Batman suit.) It was a cute, no-sew idea he had, so I thought I’d share it.
Basically my sister’s friend wanted to be Batman, but he didn’t want the traditional Batman costume. Instead he wanted a suit covered in bats. He’d seen something similar in a costume store, but he’s very tall and they didn’t have one tall enough to fit him. As such, he had me improvise one for one him.
He picked up a black suit and pants at a 2nd hand shop and then I covered it with bats. I had some gold material left over my Loki costume, so I cut the bats out of that. I chose to use the Christian Bale version of the batarang shape as the bat symbol for the suit.
After cutting 80 bats out of the gold material, I proceeded to hot glue them to the black suit. The trick to making the bats look good is to stagger them. You don’t want them all sitting the same way. Have some flying left, some flying right, some swooping upward, etc. Total chaos to give the effect of actual flying bats.
Finally, two sideways bats on the suit lapels make the finishing touch. Once the hot glue is cool, the suit is ready to wear. The gold material gives the bat man suit a shot of bling.
This costume works well in a pinch when you need a quick costume for a party and don’t have time to make a full batman suit. It’d also be a cute alternative for any parent who’s feeling overly stressed out about making their child’s Halloween costume.
