Reasons To Buy Rechargeable Batteries

Reasons To Buy Rechargeable Batteries

I’m a big fan of rechargeable batteries (being on solar may have something to do with that πŸ˜‰ ). Though the upfront cost sometimes scares people away, they’re actually the better value in the end. So if you’re on the fence about rechargeables, here are a few monetary and eco-friendly reasons to buy rechargeable batteries.

Rechargeable Batteries Last Longer

The most obvious benefit of rechargeable batteries is that they last longer than single-use batteries. The first “cycle” of a rechargeable battery is a little shorter than the lifespan of a standard single-use battery. It’s not much shorter however. And once the rechargeable battery is drained, you can recharge it again, many times.

Two cycles alone is enough to surpass the life of any standard battery. But most rechargeable batteries can be recharged between 500 and 1000 cycles. This gives them many times the lifespan of single-use batteries.

Rechargeable Batteries Cost Less

Rechargeable batteries do cost more initially. However, they cost much less in the long run. Because their rechargeability gives them a much longer life span than standard batteries, they’re the better value. You would have to buy multiple sets of standard batteries to equal the lifespan of rechargeable batteries. So rechargeable batteries offer significant savings since they have to be replaced much less often.

Rechargeable Batteries Mean Less Packaging

Since you have to replace rechargeable batteries less often, it also means less waste. Unfortunately batteries tend to come in disposable plastic cases. Since rechargeable batteries have to be purchased less often than standard batteries, they equal less of that packaging. And since they last longer than standard batteries, it’s fewer batteries to dispose of as well. Eco-friendly rechargeable batteries for the win!

Rechargeable Batteries Are Easier To Recycle

It is possible to recycle standard single-use batteries. However, it often requires you to pay for and send in a special battery box to the recycling center. As such, many people unfortunately just throw them out.

In many states it’s illegal to throw out rechargeable batteries though. So they’re a lot easier to recycle. In fact, you can take them down to any local Lowes or Staples to be recycled. Pretty cool right? Added bonus, most Lowes stores will also recycle CFL light bulbs. So you can make it a one-stop recycling trip.

So next time you find yourself in need of batteries, buy rechargeable batteries instead. They may cost a little more up front, but they’ll save you a lot in the long run. And it’s an easier way to keep our world a little greener in the process!
