Rey’s Staff DIY Tutorial

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make Rey’s staff from Star Wars The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. It’s a little time consuming, but still fairly cheap and easy to construct from PVC pipe and craft foam.

Rey's Staff DIY Tutorial

MATERIALS USED:
1 PVC pipe (mine was 1 1/4 inch diameter)
Scrap strips of off-white and brown fabric (the more ragged the edges, the better)
Hot glue gun
Scissors
2 sheets of 3mm craft foam
1 sheet of 5mm craft foam
White school glue
Foam brush and cup to hold glue
Black paint (I used lacquer)
Metallic Gunmetal Gray paint
2 D-rings (or something similar)
A 3-bar fastener (so the strap can be adjusted)
1 5-foot piece of beige strapping
2 clasps to hook onto D-rings
*Optional: Distress ink or brown food coloring to age to staff wrappings

The piece of pipe I used for this was left over from the Aquaman trident that I made for my brother last year, so my Rey’s staff ended up being a little shorter than it should have been, but you can adjust yours to fit your size.

A lot of the D-rings and fasteners were just spare ones I had lying around, so I’m not sure anymore where all of them came from. In fact a few of them were just old loops from discarded belts that seemed to fit with the rest of the staff. So basically just use whatever you can find that’s close.

I used a little distress ink to stain the white wrappings on my Rey’s staff, so it would look a little more used. If you have wrapping that are more off-white, you can probably get away without it. But if your wrappings are bright white like mine were initially, you’ll definitely want to distress ink it, or spray it with some brown food coloring to age it a bit.

And be sure to leave me a comment below and let me know if you liked The Last Jedi. I know people were kind of split about it, so I’d be curious to see what you guys thought of it.

  1. I was reading through some of the early Rise Of Skywalker reviews. The reviews kind of looks as mixed as The Last Jedi was. As long as Daisy Ridley is in it, I’m there haha! Starwars for life!

    • πŸ‘ I’m still excited to go see it. I’ll admit, there were a few things in The Last Jedi I could have done without (ahem, Leia flying through empty space back to the ship…), but I did love The Force Awakens, so I’m hoping this trilogy ends as well as it started. And I agree, I love Daisy as Rey!
