Spider Gwen – DIY Spider Gwen Costume / Ghost Spider (Toddler Size)

In this week’s tutorial I’ll show you how to turn some second hand clothes into an easy DIY Spider Gwen costume.

DIY Spider Gwen costume Ghost spider tutorial

MATERIALS USED:
Spider Gwen template (available free in my patterns vault)
White 2nd hand shirt
White knit fabric (I used a quarter yard, you may need a half yard for a big kid or adult)
Pink knit fabric (I used an old shirt. A 1/3 yard should be enough for big kid/adult)
Black 2nd hand pants
White puffy paint
Scissors
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Fabric Glue

This particular Spider Gwen costume I made for the daughter of a friend, so it’s in toddler size, but the technique can be used for someone of any size. Simply start with bigger clothes.

The template I made for the hood, eyes, and detail pieces is in toddler size as well, but can be easily enlarged. Simply pull the template images into a Word document or any photo editing program and pull the corners out to enlarge.

Another easy way to enlarge is to use graph paper. Or check out my pattern resizing post here about the “professional” way to resize a pattern, by cutting and sliding the pieces.

Another tip to make the costume go faster, if you’re making this for a big kid or adult, is to start with a white hoodie. Then you won’t have to make the entire hood, just add in the pink lining.

I did not make a mask for this Spider Gwen costume, as being for a toddler, I just put the spider eyes on the hood. However, you can easily make the Spider Gwen mask by gluing the eye sockets onto a white facemask.
