Stargate Eye of Ra Medallion DIY (Eye of Horus) – Cheap and Easy

DIY Stargate Eye of Ra Medallion (Eye of Horus) - Cheap and Easy

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to turn a little clay and gold paint into a DIY Stargate Eye of Ra medallion.

MATERIALS USED:
Clay
Twistie, toothpick or something pointed to draw with
Plastic Easter egg or something rounded
Metallic gold paint
Metallic bronze paint
Paint brush
Pony beads and string or premade necklace chain

I had originally planned to paint pony beads gold and string them to make the chain, but I ran out of gold paint. Unfortunately I didn’t have time to get more before I had to finish the tutorial, so I ended up just going through my junk box to see what I could find.

I ended up with a golden chain with that had some green beads on it, so it made a passable. replacement. It looked like something that would fit the style and era. I may still change it to the pony beads later on, however.

Eye of Ra vs Eye of Horus

While the amulet in the movie is referred to as the eye of Ra, it’s actually the eye of Horus. The eye of Ra faces the opposite direction. In any event, I based the medallion in this tutorial on the one in the movie, so I did the left-facing eye of Horus upon it.

I’ve been fascinated with ancient Egypt since I was still in single digits. (A psychic once told me that I spend several past lives there, so maybe that explains it πŸ˜‰ )

I spent a lot of time as a youngling building pyramids out of Legos, painting flower pots with Egyptian burial masks, and once built an entire replica of the Giza Plateau out of snow, complete with all 3 of the famous pyramids and the Great Sphinx. (Mine were a bit smaller in scale of course).

Obviously I’m also a huge, long-time fan of sci-fi. So I guess it’s only natural that Stargate would be one of my top 10 favorite films, since it combines both sci-fi and ancient Egypt. I also very much enjoy the Stargate shows, though they were a bit different than the movie.
