Starkiller Lightsaber DIY – Cheap and Easy Cardboard – StarWars
This week’s tutorial is a cheap and easy Starkiller Lightsaber DIY. If you’ve got a cardboard tube, some silver foil and a bit of time, it’s a fun project.
MATERIALS USED:
Saber template (available free in my patterns vault)
Cardboard tube – about 11 inches long
Silver adhesive foil or aluminum foil
Gold adhesive foil
Cardstock
2mm craft foam
Scraps of 5mm craft foam
Red bead
Silver wedding ring favors
Studs, paper fasteners, or googly eyes
Long thin beads (gold, or paint them gold)
Copper wire (or cardstock rolled up and painted copper)
Various bits of junk: button, glue cap, plug protector, cord container
White school glue
Paintbrush
Black Metallic paint
Metallic silver paint (Silver Anniversary)
Utility knife
Scissors
Glue that will bond metal
I used silver adhesive foil because I like the fact that it’s pre-sticky. However, you can always just use regular aluminum foil and glue it on as a cheaper alternative.
This is the first lightsaber I’ve made where the crystal is showing, so that’s a cool feature of the Starkiller lightsaber. It was fun deciding exactly how to make that crystal piece.
If you want yours to look at bit more authentic, you can also stick a small battery powered light in the tube. Then use a quartz crystal instead of a plastic bead.
Most of the other items I used on the lightsaber were whatever I already had on hand. So just use whatever items you have on to make yours. It’s a good way to make your lightsaber unique to you.
And if you have an interest in making any additional lightsabers, be sure to check out my other Star Wars tutorials here.
