Hemp foods have some excellent health benefits, and unlike its cousin marijuana, industrial hemp will not get a person high when they ingest it.

I’ve said it before, industrial hemp is a miracle plant. It can be used to make everything from paper and plastics, to fuels, medicine, and fabric (if you missed my post about the benefits of hemp fabric, click here to read it), and of course hemp foods items. Hemp seeds and hemp seed oils are rising in popularity due to their many health benefits.

While usually called seeds, hemp seeds are actually nuts. They can be eaten plain, or roasted like pumpkin seeds, and are a great addition to dry mixes such as trail mix. They can also be baked into snack bars, desserts such as cookies, or into loaves of bread.

Such hemp foods are loaded with protein, vitamins, and minerals. They help to sustain your body’s energy by preventing blood sugar spikes and regulating digestion. The Omega-3 and Omega-6 acids in hemp seeds lower blood pressure, reduce risk of heart disease, improve brain function, regulate the metabolism, keep bones healthy, and even boost the immune system. In addition, sprinkling hemp seeds on your morning breakfast cereal can help you feel fuller longer and prevent you from snacking later.

Hemp seeds can be used to make oil as well, that is very low is saturated fats. Hemp seeds can also be ground into meal which is later suitable for making a variety of hemp foods including hemp milk, cheese, ice-cream, and butter; all of which come with the health benefits of the seeds. So consider adding a few hemp foods to your diet this year. Your body will thank you.
