Thena – How To Make A Thena Costume From The Eternals
In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make a Thena costume from the Eternals movie. This costume is cheap and easy to make.
MATERIALS USED:
Thena circles pattern (available free in my patterns vault)
Long sleeved white shirt
White pants
White fabric to match (1 yard)
Scissors
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Metallic Gold puffy paint
Gold fabric (I used a gold jacket I got from a second hand shop)
1 jumbo snap
2mm craft foam
Glue gun or Glue that will stick to metal (Power-tac)
Pellon (long enough to go around your waist)
Awl
This tutorial is for the bodysuit, belt, and skirt. While Thena’s suit was made up of panels that were various shades of cream, gold, and gray, I chose to simplify it by just drawing the panels with gold puffy paint. If you want to be more authentic, you could use fabric paint to fill in the different sections between the puffy paint.
The great thing about the puffy painting on this costume is that there’s no artistic talent required. It’s just drawing various curved lines all down the body suit. They don’t have to match the exact pattern Thena had to get the point across. So this costume ends up being a really fun one to make.
If you have trouble with puffy painting, try using the bigger bottles. They’re a lot easier to squeeze. (They’re also a better value in the long run, and have less waste since there’s less plastic per amount of paint comparatively).
Like most of my costumes, I split the bodysuit into two pieces. It’s especially easy to do on this costume since the belt covers the line where the shirt and pants join. (I ended up making my belt higher on the waist specifically to cover the line, but if you want to be more accurate, you can move it down further on the waist.)
