Maleficent Costume Tutorial Part 1: DIY Horns, Staff, Ring

This is a tutorial for making a fairly simple staff that lights up, horns, and ring for a Maleficent costume.

Maleficent Costume: DIY Horns, Staff, Ring

The staff in this tutorial is actually based more on Maleficent’s staff from the old Sleeping Beauty cartoon, rather than the Angelina Jolie movie. The reason I chose that version of the staff was because the staff that went with the Angelina Jolie Maleficent costume doesn’t light up much and I have a fascination for light-up cosplay props. The finger lights can be purchase through Amazon for a couple of bucks.

If you’d rather have a staff that doesn’t light up, just use any rubber or plastic ball of your chosen color. You can also wire one of those artificial Halloween crows on the top of the staff’s grapevines to complete the look.

I would recommend making the horns a bit shorter than the ones I made for my Maleficent costume. Mine were so long that they were a bit top heavy, and I ended up smacking them into a doorway (hence why they’re off kilter at the end of the video).
