Guinan Costume Tutorial Part 2: Tunic

Now onto the other half of the Guinan costume tutorial, the tunic, which you can wear with the Guinan hat we made last week.

Guianan Costume Tutorial Part 2 Tunic

MATERIALS USED:
2 second-hand teal skirts
1 old shirt/sweater similar in color to Guinan’s
1 pack of teal bias tape (The color I used was called Mediterranean)
Scissors
Fabric glue or a hot glue gun

The nice thing about this tunic is that it’s really easy to make because there’s no “shape” to it really. It’s just a whole lot of loose fabric, so the design is very forgiving, hiding any mistakes easily. The two skirts I used to make the tunic I picked up for a couple bucks at the Salvation Army (so check your local second hand shops.)

The sweater also came from the Salvation Army, and while it wasn’t an exact match to Guinan’s top, for $4 I was willing to live with the difference. Also be sure to save the sleeves from the sweater. I don’t think it shows very well in the video, but I saved the sleeves from the sweater and wore them on my arms as the tighter undersleeves that are under the baggy tunic sleeves.

You can use fabric glue or hot glue on this, whatever your personal preference is, but if you choose to use hot glue, be sure you don’t throw this in the dryer when you wash it. If you do you’ll end up with a very melted mess in the dryer.

Many of Guinan’s outfits had a similar theme (big hats and loose tunics). Which one was your favorite? Let me know in the comments below.
