If you have a lot of grapevines growing near you, it’s easy to turn them into homemade grapevine wreath hoops.

Where I live, we have tons of wild grapevines growing in the woods. Sometimes the grapevines get aggressive enough that they suffocate the trees and have to be cleared out. I usually end up trimming back the wild vines around me every few years. And I always turn those pruned vines into homemade grapevine wreath hoops.

Grapevine wreath hoops make a perfect base for a myriad of holiday wreaths. (To see them in action, check out my evergreen wreath tutorial here, which uses a grapevine wreath as a base). They’re often attractive enough to be displayed on their own with no embellishment as well.

Homemade grapevine wreath hoops have several advantages over the store bought hoops. Homemade hoops are generally rounder than store bought hoops. Store bought hoops have a tendency to be on the flatter side. Homemade hoops are usually better quality, as you can make them out of 100% grapevines. Store bought hoops, especially the cheaper ones, are sometimes watered down with smaller twigs, which often make them more likely to fall apart.

Also when you make homemade grapevine wreath hoops you can customize the width and diameter. That way you’ll always have the perfect size for your projects, from teeny-tiny to very large. And of course a final benefit is that you know they were made in your own country with no fear of them having been produced for pennies in a sweatshop. And if you make them yourself, they’re also FREE!
