Harry Potter Costume Part 1: Easy No-Sew Sweater, Shirt, & Tie

This is a quick and easy Harry Potter costume that requires almost no sewing, save for a small bit to attach the robe closure. Itโ€™s easy enough that kids can make it themselves.ย

Easy No-Sew Harry Potter Costume Part 1: Sweater, Shirt, & Tie

Most of the pieces for this Harry Potter costume can be picked up for a couple of bucks from the local 2nd hand shop, making it both eco-friendly and inexpensive.

Though Iโ€™m calling it a Harry Potter costume, it could also be easily used for Ron or Hermione, etc. It can also be used for a character from another house, such as Draco, by altering the colors used.

**UPDATE: I later found a better way to do the tie. Take a 2nd hand red tie and putting diagonal strips of masking tape across it. Then spray paint it gold. When itโ€™s dry, peel off the masking tape to reveal the red underneath, so it has perfect alternating stripes of red of gold. (Looks much better than the tie in this video)

In your “update” you say to use spray paint to make the gold stripes, Does the gold paint bleed through the fabric, or do you use a specific material type, silk, knit, or wool? Also any specific types of paint, a fabric spray paint, or just anything you can get off of a True Value Type home store. last question, I like your instructions for making the sweater from movie 1 and 2 I plan to make it with with a sweater or a knit shirt. I don’t know yet. In the title of your post, it says part 1: Is there a Part two? Is that a no sew Robe with hood by chance, doing a HP themed Costume, if its not already obvious. If I can find a no sew or very light sew hood and robe, that is black and red on the inside of the hood, I might give it a whirl, I’ll keep googling you never know what you can find. Thanks

Found it NM. For anyone else looking use the link below.

    • Yeah, it’s just regular spray paint from any hardware store. The tie was just something I found for a couple bucks in the Salvation Army. It wasn’t silk or anything, just some kind of cheap material, and the paint didn’t seem to bleed through it at all. (P.S. Sorry about the spam filter rejecting your comments initially. I had to set it on heavy because I kept getting so many spam-bot comments, so now it automatically holds comments from anyone who hasn’t posted before.)
