DIY Faun Hooves or Satyr Feet
In the video tutorial below, I’ll show you how to make faun hooves out a pair of high heeled shoes. These are perfect for finishing off a faun or satyr costume.
MATERIALS USED:
A pair of high heels (check your local second hand shops for a cheap pair)
Small pieces of standard Wonderflex
Power-tac glue
Black glossy paint and paintbrush
1 foot of fake black fur (I found mine in JoAnn Fabrics)
I left the heels on my faun hooves to make them more comfortable to walk in (and hopefully prevent broken ankles π ), but if you want to make your faun hooves look more natural, you can break the heels off the shoes and then just paint over the broken off part. It can be a bit exhausting to walk in them like that though.
I did my two faun hooves from different materials to see which one I liked better; I used standard Wonderflex and Wonderflex pro. I’d recommend the standard Wonderflex for these, as the Wonderflex pro is a bit too flexible (usually a good thing, but in this case a bad thing). So unless you have a cardboard form, or something similar setup, the Wonderflex pro will form to the shoe too much, and not look as much like a hoof. The standard Wonderflex is more rigid, and therefore easier to give it the pointed faun hooves look.
I also did not do the usual glue paint over my Wonderflex faun hooves, as I wanted the rough texture to mimic real animal hooves. This was another point where the standard Wonderflex won out over the Wonderflex pro. The Wonderflex pro’s surface was much smoother, so it didn’t look as much like a real hoof. So I preferred the rough texture of standard Wonderflex for these.
