DIY Link Costume: Tunic and Hat – Legend of Zelda

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make a fairly simple DIY Link costume from the Legend of Zelda video game series.

DIY Link Costume: Tunic and Hat - Legend of Zelda

MATERIALS USED:
1 1/2 yards of sage green fabric
Sewing machine or needle and thread
Piece of elastic (long enough to go around your head)
Awl or something sharp to make holes (I ended up using my eyelet pliers for most of them)
1/2 yard of gold fabric
A belt

This tutorial is for Link’s hat and tunic. And then I’ll have another tutorial a bit later for the gloves and sword sheath. The sage green material isn’t actually the same color as Link’s in the video game, but I found it looked a bit more realistic than a brighter green. It was some I had leftover from the Renaissance tunic I made a few years ago. I’d originally found it in JoAnn Fabrics.

The gold fabric I used to trim the edges of this DIY Link costume also came from JoAnn’s. In the game, Link actually has a shirt made entirely of gold material that he wears under the green tunic. But I only did the edges of the costume to simplify it. If you want to be more authentic, you could use a bigger piece to make a full undershirt.

(My thanks to my brother for modeling the finished DIY Link costume)
