How to Embellish a Shirt with Iron-on Transfers and Puffy Paint

You can easily embellish an otherwise plain shirt with iron-on transfers and a little puffy paint. This technique can also be used on other fabric items such as bags, pillows, etc.

How to Embellish a Shirt with Iron-on Transfers and Puffy Paint

MATERIALS USED:
Iron on templates
1 sheet of iron-on transfer paper
A plain shirt
Scissors
Iron (on dry heat)
Puffy Paints – I used Black and Neon Orange

The iron-on transfers give your item a color pop, while the puffy paint gives the transfer a little added dimension so it’s not just flat. Also, as iron-on transfers have a tendency to peel around the edges, coating the edges with puffy paint will help keep those edges from peeling. And be sure to turn the shirt inside when you wash it. It will help keep the transfer from wearing off too soon.

You can either use your own image or you if you want the butterfly image I used, you can download it in the materials list above. If your transfer has words on it, be sure to flip the transfer mirror image (so the words are backward) when you print it out. That way when you transfer it to the shirt, it will read correctly. This is a great project to do with kids (letting the adults handle the ironing part of course).
