How to Make a Christmas Wreath out of Pine Cones
This tutorial shows how to make a Christmas wreath using pine cones. The pine cones are spray painted white to create a contrasting background for the red birds and ribbon.
I recently saw where someone had made little Christmas ornaments by painting a pine cone white and gluing a red velvet cardinal to it. The contrast of the white and the red were so beautiful together I knew I had to do something similar. In my case, I decided to make a wreath (my tree is already overloaded with ornaments!)
I found that the smaller pine cones work better for this wreath, as it’s easier to make the two rows on the wreath, but larger pine cones can be used as well. They’ll just trail off the wreath a bit more.
Initially I had planned to use red velvet cardinals, but I couldn’t find any in my collection of odds and ends, so I ended up using five glitter birds with long tails. If you end up using something similar, make sure all the tails point the same way, either all in, or all out.
