In this week’s tutorial, I’ll show you how to make gnomes from broomcorn. These are super cute, fairly easy to make, and last forever.

How To Make Gnomes From Broomcorn - DIY, Broom Corn, Easy Autumn Gnomes

Gnome Hat Template (available free in my patterns vault)
Plaid fabric (about 24″x12″ per hat)
Broomcorn
Small piece of White, fluffy fabric
22 gauge wreath wire
2×4 scraps (about a foot long
2×2 board cut to 3 feet long
3-inch screws
Driver/Drill
Scissors
Sewing machine or needle and thread

These gnomes are kind of a spin on the Greenery Gnomes I did for Christmas (check them out here if you missed that tutorial). While broomcorn does have kind of an autumn feel to it, they can be used for any season just by changing the hats.

A sweet floral pattern would be perfect for spring, while some red, white, and blue could make it your mascot gnome for a 4th of July gathering.

The broomcorn on these gnomes will pretty much last forever, just make sure to store your gnome properly. When not in use, you’ll want to keep it in a container where the mice can’t get at it, because they do like broomcorn.

Broomcorn can be purchased at many farm stands in the autumn. But if you want a fun project, you can also grow it yourself from seed to make your gnome 100% handmade 😉
