Wheat Weaving Tutorial: Devonshire Heart
In this tutorial I’ll you show how to wheat weave a Devonshire heart.
MATERIALS USED:
14 straws with heads
20 straws without heads (might need more if they’re short)
10-20 straws with heads for the center bunch
Pencil
White thread
Scissors
Soaking dish
Ribbon
This design is one of my favorites because it’s an intricate looking design, yet goes together relatively quickly for a wheat weaving. Also while spiral weaves sometimes pose a problem for new weavers, this one makes the process easier by incorporating a pencil. The spiral is woven around the pencil, which makes it much easier to complete. And then the pencil just slides right out once the spiral is woven.
An additional accent like a ribbon tied around the base of the weaving offers the perfect finishing touch.
If you’ve never woven with wheat before, you may want to check out my introductory wheat weaving tutorial here just to get the basics. Then once you’re familiar with those, give this design a go.
The Devonshire heart is a very traditional wheat weaving design, so it’s often the first one that comes to mind when people think of wheat weaving.
