Wheat Weaving: Witch On Broom

In this wheat weaving tutorial, I’ll show you how to weave a witch flying on a broom.

Wheat Weaving: Witch On Broom

MATERIALS USED:
38 straws with heads
4 straws without heads
White thread
Scissors
Soaking basin and water
Glue or hot glue gun

Most of this wheat weaving is pretty easy to do. The spiral weave of the hat will be the most difficult plait, but even that is fairly simple.

It’s also a whole lot of fun! Spiral weaves are some of my favorite plaits. It’s almost meditative weaving them round and round in circles and watching the spiral form.

While this is not a traditional wheat weaving design, it is very fitting for the season. Since wheat weaving is a harvest art, it falls perfectly into the Halloween spirit as the grains are ripe during the months when the “Season of the Witch” begins!

I used wheat to weave this particular witch, but rye or barley are also excellent weaving choices. If you’ve never woven with wheat before, click here to check out the basics.
