DIY Beach Lamp

Got a lamp that’s a little blaaah? Then why not use a few seashells to turn it into your own DIY beach lamp.

DIY Beach Lamp

MATERIALS USED:
Lamp and shade (mine came from a 2nd hand shop)
A mixture of shells
A dried starfish
A few sand dollars
Glue that will adhere strongly to multiple surfaces (I used power-tac)

All it takes is a little glue and a variety of shells to spiff up an otherwise plain lamp. This little lamp was a second-hand store find. While the shape and shade were totally cute, the neutral color scheme didn’t do much for me. I love color (even my couch is bright purple with multi-colored butterflies 😉 ). So it needed a little retouching. Enter the beach!

Most of the shells I used on this lamp I collected while visiting my aunt who lives on the ocean. That’s also where the sand dollars came from. If you collect your own sand dollars, make sure they’re dead before you collect them. Dead one have usually lost their color and their spines. They’re generally all dried up, and not half-buried in the sand. Same with the starfish. Be sure they’re dead before you collect them.

As for the glue, I used power-tac, as it can stick to multiple surfaces. You’ll want to use something similar that will be able to adhere to both the shells and your lamp base.
