Black Panther Costume Part 2: Bodysuit

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make a Black Panther costume bodysuit. This is kind of a cross between the Civil War suit and the Black Panther movie suit, since I liked the base of the Civil War suit better, but I preferred the details from the Black Panther movie, so I combined the two.

How to Make a Black Panther Costume Bodysuit

MATERIALS USED:
1 Black turtleneck (or something similar)
1 pair of tight black pants
1 foot of stretchy fake black leather (found at JoAnn Fabrics)
Scissors
Fabric glue
Small scraps of silver foil fabric (found at JoAnn’s)
Scraps of cardstock
Silver adhesive foil
Power-tac or hot glue gun

I didn’t do the kinetic energy on my Black Panther suit, but if you wanted to add that to your suit, you could do so with a little neon purple puffy paint or flat fabric paint. You might also need a little black fabric paint just to blend the edges of the purple back into the Black Panther suit, so it doesn’t look too raised. The base pieces for the top and pants I picked up for a couple bucks at the local Salvation Army.

I did this costume in two pieces instead of one solid bodysuit to make it easier to put on and take off. I was initially just going to use a black turtleneck for the top part, but I found that sweatshirt in the Salvation Army with all the stitching all over it and thought it would work perfectly. Even though those lines didn’t actually appear on the Black Panther costume, I felt for a homemade costume, they just added a high-tech looking effect to it (and since we’re talking about Wakanda, high-tech is definitely something we want to go with here).

My favorite character in Black Panther was Shuri because she was so funny. And I liked how believable it was that Shuri and T’challa were siblings (filming while T’challa gets thrown backward by the suit anyone?) So who was your favorite character from the Black Panther movie? Let me know in the comments below.

This is the second part of how to make a Black Panther costume. If you missed the first part last week, the claw necklace and gloves, click here to check that out.
