DIY Open Front Steampunk Coat (Steampunk Elf Coat)
In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make a DIY steampunk coat.
MATERIALS USED:
2nd Hand Jacket
Scissors
3 buttons
Needle and thread or sewing machine
Green fabric to match jacket
Gears
Jingle bells
This steampunk coat has the open style often used in steampunk fashion. However, this coat is not 100% accurate of the era, as I want it to have a slightly elvish flare to it as well. This coat being the final part of my steampunk elf costume (if you missed the previous installments, check out the Goggles here, the belt here, the boots here, and the hair here).
The base jacket for this steampunk coat I picked up for a couple bucks in a second hand shop. The fabric was just some shiny fabric I found in JoAnn Fabrics to match the texture. That’s also where I found the little jingle bells.
My base jacket was a bit small initially, so I did have to cut the jacket in half down the back and add in a strip to widen it. That’s why you see a green strip in the middle of the jacket in a few of the shots.
