Power Rangers – DIY Power Rangers Communicator

In the video tutorial below, I’ll show you how to make a super cheap and easy DIY Power Rangers communicator by upcycling an old watch.

Cheap and Easy Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Communicator DIY

MATERIALS USED:
An old watch
Silver adhesive foil
Awl or other sharp, pointed object
Metallic silver paint
Paint brush
Tiny scrap of yellow paper
Thin-tipped black marker
Glue that sticks to foil (Power-tac)
Hunter Green Paint
Metallic silver pen
Metallic silver puffy paint
Red Puffy Paint
Puffy paint of your chosen Power Ranger’s color (I used yellow/gold)

I’ve never been a Power Ranger person myself, just never got into it. But I had several requests to do a tutorial for a DIY Power Rangers communicator. So I headed for Google and I was able to find images of what they looked like. Once finished, I double-checked with my brother, since he was a big Power Rangers fan. In the end, it passed his scrutiny, so here’s the tutorial for that.

The watch I used was just an old kid’s watch that had long since stopped working. I’d never gotten around to throwing it out, and now I’m glad I didn’t. (As a cosplayer, ANYTHING could be useful at some point 😉 ). The watch band is a little thin, but it serves its purpose. However, if you want your DIY Power Rangers communicator to be a bit more authentic, you might want to use a watch with a thicker band and thicker dial on the side.

In place of red puffy paint for the “lights” on the communicator, you could also get some tiny plastic red gems to stick on. The silver adhesive foil is the same stuff I used for the Anakin lightsaber tutorial and several other tutorials. But if you don’t want to use it, you can always just glue on strips of tinfoil instead. You’ll just have to make sure the glue you use will stick to metal.

So what color is your DIY Power Rangers communicator going to be?
