Super Easy DIY Cowboy Poncho

In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make a super easy DIY cowboy poncho.

DIY Cowboy Poncho Super Easy

MATERIALS USED:
2nd hand blanket (cool pattern is a bonus)
Scissors
Needle and thread

I have always loved westerns; can never get enough of them. Many moons ago I even tried to weave the poncho that Clint Eastwood wore in the Spaghetti Westerns (still not finished yet, but some day damn it!). And since the western poncho is such a common motif, eventually I knew I’d have find a simple way to make a DIY cowboy poncho. And so, my little 2nd hand blanket poncho came about.

This DIY cowboy poncho is very quick and easy to make (I wasn’t kidding when I titled it super easy 😉 ). Basically you just need a pair of scissors and a needle and thread to alter an old blanket. The blanket I used here was something I picked up for $4 at the local Volunteers of America. So hit those second hand shops and see what you can find!

Anything with a “stripey” pattern or something plain and natural colored will look good as a cowboy poncho. And if you can find a blanket that’s woven like this throw was, even better.

And when you’re done playing cowboy or working with your reenactment group, you got a bonus. The poncho doubles as a great piece of boho clothing! (Yes, I’ve totally been wearing this one for everyday).
