Captain Marvel Part 1: DIY Captain Marvel Costume Top and Gloves
In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make the first part of a DIY Captain Marvel costume. This will be for the top of gloves of a DIY Captain Marvel costume. Brie Larson’s actually looks to be a one piece suit, but I always prefer to break them into two for comfort.
MATERIALS USED:
Blue long-sleeved shirt
1 foot of 1/4 inch foam (sold in JoAnn Fabrics with the pellon)
1 foot of blue fabric
Scrap of gold foil fabric (also from JoAnn’s)
Scissors
Hot glue gun
1/2 yard of red vinyl (you will used the rest in Part 2)
String of Gold Pyramid Beads
Glue that adheres to plastic (Power-tac)
Gold puffy paint
1 roll of 1/4 inch gold rick-rack ribbon
A pair of red gloves
4 buttons
Needle and thread
I had several requests to do a DIY Captain Marvel tutorial. So I figured I’d try to do one based on the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, before the movie actually came out. However, that also means that reference shots are almost non-existent at this point. For some of the costume (mainly the back), I just took a guess about what it might look like. I also took quite a bit of artistic liberty with this costume in order to simplify it. Because, ya know, I simply them all.
Most of this DIY Captain Marvel costume I put together with just stuff that I already had on hand. We had a couple feet of snow at the time, and I couldn’t get out of the driveway for supplies, so I used what I had. The gold beads were left from Harley Quinn. The red vinyl was left from The Flash. The gold star fabric was left over from Loki. The gold rick-rack was left over the Star Trek tunics. As such some of this costume, like the color of the fabrics, don’t match the movie costume, but you can always change yours to make it more authentic.
