Hela Part 2: DIY Hela Horns Headdress

In the video below, I’ll show you how to make the second half of the requested Hela costume, the DIY Hela horns headdress. (If you missed the first part of the DIY Hela costume last week, the bodysuit and cape, click here to check to check out that tutorial).

DIY Hela Horns Headdress

MATERIALS USED:
1 foot of Fosshape Black
Scissors
Scrap cardboard strips
Gourd or a wooden head form
Oven or heat gun
Needle and black thread
Hela Horns Template (optional) – (Available for free in my patterns vault)

It took me a bit to figure out how I could make this headdress sturdy, but still light enough to wear comfortably. Eventually I settled on Fosshape, as I had quite a bit left over from the Black Panther Mask I’d made. When heated, the Fosshape becomes rigid and holds the form well. And as long as you don’t overheat it, you can sew through it once it’s formed, making it easy to attach the horns to the “hat” part.

If you don’t want to use Fosshape, you could also use craft foam as a substitute. It would work similarly and be lightweight as well, though you’ll have to glue your horns to your “hat” piece instead of sewing them on. Also if you use craft foam for your DIY Hela horns, you’ll probably only want to use one layer for each horn, as it will be difficult to try and sandwich a cardboard strip between two layers of foam.
